WC100 - Waterfall Cascades 100 challenge, is sponsored by Carolina Mountain Club. It is a list of 100 waterfalls and Cascades in NC, SC and TN.
This gallery features the waterfalls on the WC-100 list, sorted by date of visit. Waterfall photography is tricky and conditions are fickle. You can visit a waterfall several times and find significantly different conditions. Some of the photos were taken in terrible light conditions, others were taken during dry spells where the flow is less than impressive. On the other hand, some of these photos were taken when the waterfall was looking its best! Many of these waterfalls have been visited several times, thus, we had to chose only one photo to represent a particular waterfall!
IMPORTANT WATERFALL SAFETY! THE TERRAIN AND ROCKS AROUND WATERFALLS ARE SLIPPERY AND A FALL MAY RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY OR WORSE! EVERY YEAR THERE ARE SERIOUS INJURIES AND FATALITIES AROUND THESE WATERFALLS! Some of the photos here are taken from precarious spots. When photographing, we will use ropes and safety devices. Another reason not to trample around the waterfalls is that some of the surrounding slopes contain rare plants and are extremely prone to erosion!
These photos span a period of 5 years and 5 cameras (cameras used include Canon Rebel T1i, Sony W-300, Sony N-2, Sony W-100, Sony P-70)! The photos in the beginning of the gallery were taken with the DSLR camera, but even some of the photos taken with the point and shoot turned out great!
All of these photos are available in high resolution and without watermark. Please contact me for more information!
Greenland Creek Falls, Panthertown Valley, NC
We've visited Panthertown Valley multiple times, but always managed to overlook this gem. Honestly, we think this is more picturesque than Schoolhouse Falls. It was a frozen spectacle on the day we visited. Unfortunately, the trail was covered in up to a foot of snow, with no previous human tracks. Translation... we wish we had snowshoes!
